Sequim Lavender Weekend - A Great Time for Everyone
A wonderful time was had by all at our farm for Sequim Lavender Weekend. The sun was in it’s full blazing glory, the lavender loves the heat, us farmers not so much, but we looooove ice cream and this year we were so happy to offer the yummiest chocolate covered ice cream bars from Whidbey Ice Cream Company, a big hit in the heat.
A few highlights this year were having Jennifer Duncan Taylor, original owner of the farm, showcasing her lovely pottery and demonstrating how she creates her masterpieces also Jeff Becker of Charitable Arts was here with her beautiful art donating to our non profits, Dogs for the Deaf and Central Valley Animal Rescue.
Now that the crazy weekend is over, we’ve been busy harvesting, drying, cleaning and hanging lavender, the weather has been dry and hot so drying time has been quick. The most fun we’ve had though is distilling. We realized that the still we bought last year is too small and takes too long so a friend let us use her still and what a difference, we got so much more done. We already have an order in for a bigger still, and love the results from our distilling this year.
A lot to do still, we’ve been replacing our 15 year old rows of lavender each year and this year 3 more will be replaced. People are still on vacation and visiting the farm, u-pick is pretty much done, but our gift shop is open and the smell of lavender oil is in the air.
We want to thank all our friends, family, vendors, musicians, and customers who helped make the weekend so much fun.
