Making Lavender SoapFeb 15, 2010 - Today marks the first day of my spring soap production. For the next three months or so, I will be making soap a few times a week. I make soap in small batches and make two batches per day. This allows me to ensure that the soap is the highest quality. Although making soap doesn't take that much time, there are steps that need to be taken throughout the day over a three and a half hour timeframe. Over the years, I've learned to structure my days so soap production doesn't halt all of my other productivity. And even though I've made thousands of bars of soap, I'm still fascinated by the magic of taking lye, water and oils and turning them into something that is rich with lather, smooth and luxurious. I got hooked on handmade soap years ago and used to stock up whenever I found a good source at speciality stores or farmers markets. Now that I make my own, it's the only soap I have used for years and I'm constantly trying out new fragrances and additives. If you haven't used handmade soap, you are missing a real pleasure. It is truly one of those small, affordable luxuries that can start your day in positive way. Not to mention how great it is for your skin. |
