Gearing up for the New YearJan 07, 2010 - The last of the outdoor Christmas lights and wreaths just came down. The real sign that the holidays are over. I've finished my year end inventory and am planning and strategizing for the year ahead. For me that means figuring out which products I will make and how many of each. I've also begun planning for the Lavender Festival coming up quickly in July. I've just placed my first orders for product production and will begin replenishing my stock within the week. I've also got letters, e-mails and phone calls out to artisan vendors and musicians beginning to put some of the pieces of the festival puzzle together. I like to plan early, so when the weather starts to beckon me outside, I can minimize my inside obligations. Of course, on days like today, it's sunny, but cold, I already start to feel the pull of the weeds that are beginning to show and the pruning and trimming that needs to be completed. I know that before long I'll be up to my elbows in plants and dirt, but for now, I think I'll allow myself a couple more weeks of dreaming and planning before the hectic pace of gearing up for spring and summer begin. |
