Potting Lavender PlantsMar 18, 2009 - Remember all of those lavender cuttings I took last fall, well now they all need to be potted. I've been working on these for a few hours a week for the past couple of weeks, and I have to say, it's one of the most gratifying aspects of my business. There's something about watching a plant spring to life and knowing that you've helped it along if only a tiny bit. Everything seems late this year, and my starts are no exception. Even though they are sheltered and kept from freezing in the hoop house, we've had such a cold winter that they're taking their time growing into the lush plants they will become. It's just been the past couple of weeks that I'm starting to see a flush of bright green growth on them and the occasional bud, (which of course I prune off to send that energy to the roots.) Some visitors have already asked about buying plants, and since we've had another round of snow last week, I've had to tell them, it's just too early. But the calendar tells us that Spring officially starts this weekend, and hopefully the warm weather will be right on its heels. Speaking of this weekend, if you're going to be in Sequim, be sure to visit us at our local garden show, sponsored by the Sequim Soroptomists Group. The show runs Saturday, May 21 from 9:00 to 5:00 and Sunday, May 22 from 10:00 to 4:00. It's will be held at the Boys and Girls Club on Fir Street in Downtown Sequim. The farm and gift shop will be closed so that we can participate in the wonderful community event. Hope to see you there. |
