The Morning After the Lavender Festival

Jul 21, 2008 -

Wow!  What a weekend.  Thanks to everyone who was able to join us for the Lavender Festival.  We are really tired, but it was a lot of fun.  The weather was perfect for all three days.  Sunny with a breeze, so it never got too hot.  We had great music and food all weekend and a lot of visitors enjoying both in our orchard.  My sister was busy teaching folks how to make lavender wands, while my neighbors were showing people how to throw pots on a wheel and running a tile and mug painting booth.  Our caterers, Cedar Creek Restaurant here in Sequim, cooked up delicious Italian grinder sandwiches and brought their own baked goods including lavender vanilla cupcakes that you could decorate.  Another neighbor of mine is a children's book author and read from her book The Caterpillars Dream.  Our visiting artists were doing demonstrations, after my mom set them ups with baskets and scissors a lot of people were out in the field cutting their own bouquets of lavender, while many guests just enjoyed the beauty of the lavender on a summer day.

It takes a lot of people to put on the lavender festival.  In addition to my great staff, dozens of my family members and friends volunteer their time to make the weekend happen.  We have people camping in our yard, sleeping on couches and staying with generous neighbors and family members to make it all come together.  Thanks to you all!

Today, we start putting things back together.  We'll start taking down the tents and signs, putting away some of the tables and chairs, reorganizing and taking inventory on our products and of course, the farm will be open for visitors.  It will take a few days to get everything back to normal.  We'll start harvesting on Wednesday and then in a few weeks, we'll start planning for next year.
